Abstract

Greek in dependence wast he beginning of a newera in the Balkans. Balkan nations founded their own nation-states in this period. Balkan nation-states tried to expand their territory and createa homogeneous culture in their areas. During this process Balkan Turks faced with assimilation, violence and migrations. From 1881, Thes salian Muslims were in volved in this process after the an nexation of Thessaly to Greece. Fertilel and swere taken away from Muslims. Building swhich reflected there ligious and cultural values were destroyed. Only a few families were left from 40,000 Thes salian Muslims in forty years after the annexation of Thessaly to Greece. © 2014, Turkish Historical Society. All rights reserved.
