Reading the Concept of Space in the Context of Child Relativity Through Momo

Abstract

Children's literature and studies have been very important in developing a reading culture, visual perception, and orientation to qualified texts. The use of visuals created with sketching techniques, especially in terms of thought power and perception, is clearly seen in the works of Michael Ende. Michael Ende, a German author of fantasy children's books, was born in 1929. His successful works, produced between 1960 and 1995, include "Momo" as an example. "Momo" was chosen as the focus of the study due to its strong time and place setting. The study aims to evaluate how both fantastic and architectural spaces, clearly depicted in "Momo," are conveyed to the reader at the intersection of literature and architectural expression language. It also aims to re-examine the reader's perception of space from an architectural perspective. The study adopted a method in which texts and sketches with a clear expression of space in the works would be analyzed with the concept of relativity for children. In the second stage, the current analysis would be evaluated with reference to theoretical sources.

Çocuk edebiyatı ve eserleri; okuma kültürü edinme, görsel algının gelişimi ve nitelikli metinlere yönlenme açısından önemli bir edebi ürün olagelmiştir. Özellikle düşünce gücü ve algı açısından belirgin eskiz teknikleri ile oluşturulan görsellerin, yazınsal metnin konusu ve ana fikri ile paralel bir biçimde kullanılışı Michael Ende’nin eserlerinde açık bir biçimde görülmektedir. Michael Ende 1929 doğumlu Alman fantastik çocuk kitapları yazarıdır. 1960-1995 yılları arasında bir çok edebi ürün veren Ende’nin başarılı eserlerine; “Momo” örnek olarak verilebilir. Momo güçlü bir zaman ve mekan kurgusuna sahip olması açısından çalışmanın hedef unsuru olarak seçilmiştir. Çalışma; Momo’da belirgin bir şekilde aktarılan hem fantastik hem mimari mekanların edebiyat ve mimari anlatım dilinin kesiştiği noktada okuyucuya nasıl aktarıldığını değerlendirmeyi, okuyucunun mekan algısının mimari bir perspektif ile yeniden irdelemeyi hedeflemektedir. Çalışmanın başlangıcında eserlerdeki mekan anlatımı belirgin olan metinler ve eskizlerin çocuğa görelik kavramı ile göstergebilimsel çerçevede analiz edileceği, ikinci aşamasında kuramsal kaynaklardan referans alarak mevcut analizin değerlendirileceği bir yöntem benimsenmiştir.
