Teachers' Opinions on Teaching ‘Separation of Solid Wastes’ with an Educational Game

Abstract

In this study, it has been tried to determine teachers' opinions about teaching some of the acquisitions in the "Sustainable Development" subject area in the 8th grade science lesson curriculum with the designed educational games and educational games. In this study, phenomenology method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. In the study, opinions were taken from 9 science teachers who work in public and private schools who are currently taking classes. The game designed was sent to the teachers in advance and they were asked to review, and then the study data were obtained by conducting semi-structured interviews with them. "Code" and "Theme" titles were created by analyzing the data and content analysis was made. From the findings, it was understood that the game did not fully meet an acquisition, and it was concluded that the teachers were positive about educational games. At the end of the study, necessary suggestions were made about the content of the research. Some of these suggestions are presented respectively. Educational games should be used more frequently in the teaching of lessons to benefit from the entertaining, stimulating and concretizing effects of it. Designed and successful educational games should be offered to teachers from open sources, and qualified games should be used in teaching.

Bu çalışmada, ortaokul 8. sınıf fen bilimleri dersi öğretim programında yer alan ‘Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma’ konu alanı içerisindeki bazı kazanımların tasarlanan eğitsel oyunla öğretimine ilişkin ve eğitsel oyunlar hakkında öğretmen görüşleri belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgu bilim yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada hali hazırda derslere giren devlet ve özel okullarda çalışan 9 fen bilimleri öğretmeninden görüş alınmıştır. Öğretmenlere tasarlanan oyun önceden gönderilmiş ve incelemeleri istenmiş ve daha sonra kendileriyle yarı yapılandırılmış mülakatlar yürütülerek çalışma verileri elde edilmiştir. Veriler çözümlenerek ‘Kod’ ve ‘Tema’ başlıkları oluşturulmuş ve içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Bulgulardan oyunun bir kazanımı tam karşılayamadığı anlaşılmış, öğretmenlerin eğitsel oyunlara olumlu baktığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Çalışma sonunda, araştırmanın içeriğiyle ilgili gerekli önerilerde bulunulmuştur. Bu önerilerden bazıları sırasıyla sunulmuştur. Eğitsel oyunların eğlendirici, güdüleyici, somutlaştırıcı etkilerinden yararlanmak için derslerin öğretiminde daha sık kullanılmalıdır. Tasarlanan ve başarılı olmuş eğitsel oyunlar açık erişim kaynaklarından öğretmenlere sunularak nitelikli, kaliteli oyunların öğretimde kullanılması sağlanmalıdır.
