Investigation of the Relationship Between the Attitudes of Classroom Teachers towards the Teaching Profession and their Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge

Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to examine the relationship between classroom teachers' attitudes towards teaching profession and technological pedagogical content knowledge. The relational survey method, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. The sample of the study consists of 507 volunteer classroom teachers working in the city center and districts of Amasya. Personal information form, TPACK assessment scale and attitude scale towards teaching profession were used as data collection tools. As a result of the research, it was found that the relationship between teachers' attitude towards teaching profession and technological pedagogical content knowledge was positive and significant. While there was no significant difference in the attitudes of teachers towards teaching profession in terms of gender and graduation status, it was found that there was a significant difference according to the variables of age, professional seniority, computer use and time spent on the computer. While there is no significant difference in TPACK of teachers according to their graduation status, there is a significant difference in the variables of gender, age, professional seniority, computer use and time spent on the computer.

Bu çalışmada sınıf öğretmenlerinin öğretmenlik mesleğine yönelik tutumları (ÖMYT) ve teknolojik pedagojik alan bilgileri (TPAB) arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bununla birlikte, sınıf öğretmenlerinin ÖMYT ve TPAB’ları bazı demografik değişkenlere göre durumları da incelenmektedir. Araştırmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden ilişkisel tarama yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini Amasya il merkezi ve ilçelerinde görev yapan 507 gönüllü sınıf öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak kişisel bilgi formu, TPAB değerlendirme ölçeği ve ÖMYT ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi için SPSS 20.0 programı ile betimsel istatistikler, bağımsız örneklem t-testi ve ANOVA testi uygulanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, ÖMYT ve TPAB’ları arasındaki ilişkinin pozitif yönde, orta düzeyde ve anlamlı olduğu bulunmuştur. Öğretmenlerin ÖMYT’leri ile cinsiyet ve mezuniyet durumları bakımından anlamlı bir fark bulunmazken yaş, mesleki kıdem, bilgisayar kullanma durumu ve bilgisayar başında geçirilen süre değişkenlerine göre anlamlı bir farkın olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Öğretmenlerin TPAB’ları mezuniyet durumlarına göre anlamlı bir fark bulunmazken cinsiyet, yaş, mesleki kıdem, bilgisayar kullanma durumu ve bilgisayar başında geçirilen süre değişkenlerinde anlamlı bir farkın olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Öğretmenlere verilecek eğitimler ile teknolojiye karşı olumlu tutum sergilemeleri sağlanmalı, teknolojiyi eğitim-öğretim ortamında kullanabilecek gerekli bilgi ve becerileri geliştirilmelidir.
