Evaluation of the Environmental Concept in the Neo-Classical Management Approach

Abstract

This study aims to understand the Neo-Classical approach to the economic-environmental dilemma and to develop an understanding of the drinking value of the environment. The Neo-Classical approach emerges as a model in literature that studies management, people and economics. It can be seen that the relationship between Neo-Classicalism and the environment is almost never questioned in previous studies. This situation constitutes the limitation of the study and makes this study even more unique with the limited literature on enviromental point. The main objectives of the study are to contribute to literature along with these limitations and to overcome a shortfall in the field. Based on the previously mentioned points, the study initilally tried to reveal the conceptual basis of what the approach is by making use of the relevant literature. Then, at the point of economy-environment, the value given by the approach to the environment was questioned through content analysis and inferences were made. Based on the results of the work, a common conclusion with other studies in the literature has reached as this approach, in its emergence, adopts a human- and economy-oriented approach, placing it ahead of the classical management approach in our understanding of the global world. However, at the point of environmental sustainability, it has become clear that in the environment-economy dilemma, environmental problems are evaluated with an economic focus and the environment is not a goal but a tool.

Bu çalışma; ekonomi- çevre ikileminde Neo-Klasik Yönetim Yaklaşımı anlamayı ve çevrenin içkin değeri konusundaki anlayışını ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Neo-Klasik yaklaşım; literatürde yönetim, insan ve ekonomi odaklı incelenen bir model olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Neo-Klasik yönetim yaklaşımı ve çevre arasında ilişkinin yapılmış olan olan çalışmalarda neredeyse hiç sorgulanmadığı görülmektedir. Bu durum çalışmanın sınırlılık alanını oluşturmakta ve bu çalışmayı çevre noktasının literatür sınırlılığı ile daha da özgün kılmaktadır. Söz konusu sınırlılıklarla birlikte literatüre katkı sunmak ve ilgili alanda bir eksikliği gidermek çalışmanın başlıca amaçlarındandır. Belirtilen noktalardan hareketle çalışmada öncelikle ilgili literatürden yararlanılarak yaklaşımın ne olduğu ile ilgili kavramsal temel ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Daha sonra ise, ekonomi- çevre noktasında yaklaşımın çevreye verdiği değer içerik çözümlemesi analizi ile sorgulanarak çıkarımlarda bulunulmuştur. Çalışma sonucunda; bu yaklaşımın ortaya çıkış amacı gereği insan ve ekonomi odaklı bir anlayışı benimsediği ve küresel dünya anlayışında klasik yönetim anlayışının önünde yer bulduğu gibi literatürdeki diğer çalışmalarla ortak bir sonuca ulaşılmıştır. Bununla birlikte çevrsel sürdürülebilirlik noktasında ise çevre-ekonomi ikileminde çevre sorunlarını da ekonomi odaklı değerlendirdiği ve çevrenin bir amaç değil, araç olduğu konusu netlik kazanmıştır.
