An Examination of Ziya Gökalp's Alageyik Tale According to the Semiotic Analysis Method

Abstract

The most important representative of semiotics, whose foundations were shaped on Saussure's theory of signs and Propp's structuralist views, is A. J. Gremias. Stating that the narrative is a whole consisting of form and content, namely the signifier and the signified, Greimas states that the content can be reached by starting from the form. He states that a narrative must be divided into sections in order to reach the deep structure from the surface structure, and says that each section is a whole on its own, and this whole is a part of the whole narrative. Greimas emphasizes that the meaning in the narrative will arise from binary contrasts, pointing out that with the semiotic quadrilateral model he developed, the logical-semantic whole in the deep structure can emerge from binary contrasts. In this study, it will be tried to apply Greimas' semiotic analysis method to Ziya Gökalp's Alageyik poetry tale and to reveal the deep structure in the narrative based on the surface structure. Before the application, the concepts used by the semiotic method will be emphasized, and then the solution of the meaning in the narrative divided into sections will be revealed with the semiotic quadrilateral model. With this study, it will be shown that the semantic structure of the text can be revealed by applying semiotics, which can be applied in all areas of life such as cinema, politics and advertising, to a literary work.

Saussure’ün gösterge teorisi ile Propp’un yapısalcı görüşleri üzerine temelleri şekillenen göstergebilimin en önemli temsilcisi A. J. Greimas’tır. Anlatının gösteren ve gösterilen olmak üzere biçim ve içerikten oluşan bir bütün olduğunu söyleyen Greimas, içeriğe biçimden yola çıkılarak ulaşılabileceğini ifade eder. Yüzey yapıdan derin yapıya ulaşılabilmesi için bir anlatının kesitlere ayrılması gerektiğini belirterek her bir kesitin kendi başına bir bütün ve bu her bütünün de anlatının tamamına ait bir parça olduğunu söyler. Anlatıdaki anlamın ikili karşıtlıklardan doğacağına vurgu yapan Greimas, geliştirdiği göstergebilimsel dörtgen modeliyle ikili karşıtlıklardan hareketle derin yapıdaki mantıksal-anlamsal bütünün ortaya çıkabileceğine işaret eder. Bu çalışmada Greimas’ın göstergebilimsel çözümleme yöntemi Ziya Gökalp’in Alageyik manzum masalına uygulanmaya ve yüzey yapıdan hareketle anlatıdaki derin yapı ortaya çıkarılmaya çalışılacaktır. Uygulamadan önce göstergebilimsel metodun kullandığı kavramlar üzerinde durulacak ve ardından kesitlere ayrılan anlatıdaki anlamın çözümü göstergebilimsel dörtgen modeliyle ortaya konulacaktır. Bu çalışmayla sinema, siyaset, reklam gibi hayatın her alanında tatbik edilebilen göstergebilimin bir edebî esere de uygulanarak metnin anlam yapısının ortaya konulabileceği gösterilecektir.
