This chapter explores the issue of migration from the perspectives of language discordance experienced by new migrants. Türkiye and Australia are presented as two case studies. Türkiye hosts the largest number of refugees in the world, accounting for close to 4 million persons of concern who have fled from countries in the Middle East and Africa. Australia, on the other hand, is dependent on skilled migration for its population sustainability and operates a humanitarian intake programme to receive refugees and people who need protection. This chapter highlights the challenges associated with language discordance experienced by migrants in the two national contexts, and outlines how government-sponsored community interpreting and translation services foster social inclusion by facilitating access to public services. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Brigid Maher, Loredana Polezzi and Rita Wilson.en_US
