TEACHING MASS AND WEIGHT CONCEPTS: PREDICTION-OBSERVATION- EXPLAIN
Özet
In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effect of prediction-observation-explanation (POE) technique on students' academic achievement and concept learning on seventh grade mass and weight. The research is based on a pretest-posttest simple experimental design model with quantitative background. The sample of the study consists of 19, 7th grade students attending a secondary school in Çorum province. As data collection tool, achievement test consisting of open-ended questions, concept map test and semi-structured interview form were used. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, difference analysis and content analysis. Wilcoxon signed rank test from nonparametric tests was used to compare the achievement of students before and after the application. Interviews with students were conducted through content analysis. As a result of the study, it was determined that POE technique significantly increased the academic achievement of students in terms of mass and weight and was effective in eliminating misconceptions of students and changing their images positively. As a result of the study, various suggestions were made such as conducting similar studies with larger samples and applying different techniques on the same subject. © 2021. All Rights Reserved.
