Acute pancreatitis can be the primary cause of hospitalization in intensive care units, while it can also develop as a result of a complication of an illness. As acute pancreatitis has high mortality and morbidity rates, physicians and nurses who work in intensive care units should be well aware of acute pancreatitis and able to manage clinic care and have a well-organized discharge training to prevent recurring infections. This review focuses on the medical and nursing management of patients with acute pancreatitis and what patient education should include. (Yogun Bakim Derg 2015; 6: 98-103)
