Aim: Differentiation of natural and forced deaths observed in this age group is very important in the forensic medicine practice. According to the address based population registration system, population rate of 65 years and older has been 9.5% of the total population in 2020. In the present study, we aimed to medicolegal evaluation of demographic data and autopsy findings of judicial geriatric deaths in Bursa and around.Material and Method: Autopsy reports of the cases who have been taken to Morgue Specialization Office of Council of Forensic Medicine Institution and at 65 years and over, crime scene and deceased examination reports and data in the prosecution documents were assessed retrospectively between 2003-2008 in our study. Results: During 6-year period, totally 5155 autopsies have been investigated in Morg Specialization Office of Bursa Council of Forensic Medicine Institution. Among such cases, 870 (16.8%) were 65 years old and older. Cases who were 65 years old and older included 640 (73.6%) were male, 230 (26.4%) were female. In terms of death origin, 434 (49.9%) were natural deaths, 267 (30.7%) were accidents, 102 (11.7%) were suicides and 52 (6%) were homicides. Origin of death of the remaining 15 (1.7%) could not be detected. According to the information obtained from the statements of the witnesses in crime scene investigation and dead body examination reports, a previous disease existed in 336 (38.6%) cases before death. Diseases which have been existing before death includes cardiac diseases, hypertension, central nervous system pathologies, diabetes mellitus, respiratory system pathologies, undefined psychiatric disorders, gastrointestinal system pathologies and malignancies, respectively to frequency. Conclusion: In line with prolongation of life expectancy and increase in the geriatric population, it is observed according to our outcomes that an increase is detected in judicial geriatric death cases due to neuropsychiatric disease, leading a solitary life and psychomotor imbalance.

Objective: Ferritin is a critical protein involved in iron storage and functions as an acute-phase reactant, playing a significant role in chronic inflammation and the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. Elevated ferritin levels in end-stage renal disease patients undergoing hemodialysis may influence cardiac electrophysiological parameters, such as the corrected index of cardio-electrophysiological balance, a marker of proarrhythmic risk. This study aimed to investigate the association between ferritin levels and the corrected index of cardio-electrophysiological balance in patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis. Material and Method: This retrospective cross-sectional study included 438 patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis, categorized into two groups according to their ferritin levels: Group 1 (≥1000 ng/mL, n=254) and Group 2 (≤200 ng/mL, n=184). Demographic, biochemical, and electrocardiographic data, including corrected index of cardio-electrophysiological balance, were analyzed. The correlation between ferritin levels and the corrected index of cardio-electrophysiological balance was assessed. Results: The index of cardio-electrophysiological balance was significantly higher in Group 1 compared to Group 2 (5.1 vs. 4.9, p=0.003). A moderate positive correlation between ferritin levels and the index of cardio-electrophysiological balance was identified (r=0.326, p; Özet Amaç: Ferritin, demir depolanmasında anahtar bir protein olup, aynı zamanda kronik inflamasyon ve kardiyovasküler hastalıklarla ilişkili bir akut faz reaktanıdır.

<description>OVARIAN TORSION AND OVARIOPEXY IN PREGNANCY
Şahin, Buğra; Cura, Gizem; Çelik, Fatih; Şahin, Banuhan
A patient, aged 28 years and 33 weeks of pregnancy, admitted to our center with severe left lower quadrant pain. Ovarian torsion due to a 9 cm left ovary cyst was prediagnosed. The patient underwent general anesthesia and was corrected for torsioned ovary, blood was supplied, and the ovary was successfully fixed to the uterus by ovariopexy in order to avoid recurrence of torsion. The baby was born with a cesarean section. The patient was called to the control on the fifteenth day postop and the blood flow was re-evaluated by doppler ultrasonography. Although antepartum surgery is considered safe, abdominal surgery carries some risks for a pregnant woman and the fetus. Therefore, the clinical decision should be made according to the characteristics of the adnexal mass, the pregnancy week, pregnancy expectancy and reperfusion of the ovary.; Yirmi sekiz yaşında, gebeliğinin 33. haftasında olan bir hasta merkezimize ciddi sol alt kadran ağrısı ile başvurdu. Dokuz cm boyutundaki sol over kistine bağlı over torsiyonu ön tanısı kondu. Genel anestezi altında torsiyone over düzeltilerek kanlanması sağlandı ve tekrardan torsiyone olmaması için ovaryopeksi operasyonu ile over uterusa sabitlendi. Bebek sezaryen ile doğurtuldu. Hasta, post op on beşinci gününde kontrole çağrıldı ve dopler ultrasonografi ile over kan akımı yeniden değerlendirildi.
